Keeping your team motivated whilst working from home
With many individuals now working from home it’s important for employers to ensure they’re supporting their teams and keeping them engaged.
We’re working within a world which is ever changing. There are no rules for what we should or shouldn’t be doing and the introduction of home working is new to many businesses. As employers, it is more important than ever to consider how you can improve your employee experience.
I recently listened to a Linkedin Webinar hosted by Amy Schultz (Senior Director of Talent Acquisition, Linkedin). Amy advised that 71% of companies see analytics as a priority right now, but only 9% of companies have an understanding of their talent drivers.
In the coming months there is going to be fierce competition to secure the best talent for your business. To beat the competition you need to offer a good employee and candidate experience. Whilst you’re currently focusing less on hiring externally, consider how you can up skill your current team and improve your hiring experience. Now is the time to redevelop your processes and implement new ideas.
Amy had a few key tips on how to ensure you’re keeping your teams engaged during this time which I have summarised below:
- Reset expectations around productivity – Now is the time to cut back and self-preserve. Encourage your team to set boundaries and schedule down time.
- 70% of an individual’s engagement is driven by their manager. Use this time to truly lead by example and show the team how you’re working.
- Collect employee feedback on how remote working is going for them. Asking how they are and if they require support.
- Celebrate achievements and milestones. Get the team involved on celebrating birthdays via video chat.
- Put yourself in your employee’s shoes and show empathy. We’re all having a different experience during lockdown and it’s important to show you appreciate this.
Whether you’re currently looking to hire or not, your employee experience is equally as important as your customer experience. Your company values and beliefs in how you treat your employees will mirror through in how your employees look after your customers.
The travel industry is small and everyone is very well connected. Candidates will draw on their network to get the inside info on what it’s actually like to work somewhere. Now is the time for there to be communication at all levels, not only from the direct line manager. Treat people fairly, honestly and with a genuine interest in their personal welfare. Picking up the phone could be the difference between someone having an Ok day to a great day.
